David A. Thomas, Business Representative of the Gary Area, was born July 12, 1960 in Hammond, Indiana. He is married to Debbie.
Dave served his apprenticeship from August 1978 to June 1982 at which time he became a Journeyman. He was hired by Local 20 Gary Area Joint Apprentice Committee in June 1990 as a full time apprentice Instructor and served in that position until July 1995 when he was elected Business Representative. He had attended NTF Instructor Training at Ohio State University and IVY Tech State College where he received an Associates Degree in Apprenticeship Technology/Sheet Metal. Dave has served on the following boards and committees; from 1982 to 1984 - Local 303 Federal Credit Union Board of Directors, from 1991 to present - Gary Area Picnic Committee, from 1994 to 1995 - Local 20 Executive Board, from 1994 to 1995 - Gary Area Organizing Committee, from 1995 to present - Gary Area Joint Apprentice and Training Committee, from 1997 to present - Trustee of Sheet Metal Workers Local 20 Health and Welfare, Defined Contribution Pension Plan and State Apprentice Trust, from 1996 to 1998 - Registration Director of the Northwest Indiana Building Trades GOTV Program, and is a Porter County Wage Setter, past member of the Portage Contractor Licensing Board and past Vice-President of the LaPorte Building Trades, currently Trustee of the Northwest Indiana Building Trades Council and member of Portage Economic Development Committee
Dave enjoys cooking, playing golf, home improvement projects and traveling.
